Set of maps and sketches in their original slipcase issued to accompany volume one of Major-General Sir Frederick’s four volume wok on the war in South Africa, 1889-1902 (the second Boer War). Set is complete as issued, with one general map of the part of South Africa affected by the war, 17 further special area maps and six free hand sketches, each folding out. Housed in a cloth-covered, gilt lettering on the spine. The maps have a little toning on edges as folded but are else clean, neat and bright. The slipcase is worn and tatty, with the cloth marked, rubbed at edges and lifting in places although the panels and canvas cusps remain strong and robust (if a little dusty in folds).
