A history of Glebe House in West Wickham, Kent, covering a period of some 400 years,, with a focus on its transformation into a residence for the elderly during the later part of the 20th century.  With 16th century origins it was originally a rectory and then a private residence.  Bought by Colonel Chamberland and his wife in the 1920s the couple gifted much of the land to the local Old People’s Welfare Committee in the 1960s.  In 1970 Mrs Chamberlain sold the rest of the estate to Glebe Housing and Glebe House was first converted into accommodation for the elderly, with purpose built shelter housing in the grounds.
