A selection of leaflets and notes on the history of Mortimers Cross, near Lucton, Leominster in Herefordshire. The bundle includes: (1) The Battle of Mortimers Cross, Wars of the Roses, 1461, an 8pp leaflet with black and white illustrations, closely typed, dating from 1987 (2) Florrie’s Story: Life at Mortimers Cross Mill in 1919, an 8pp stapled booklet in light card covers (3) a typescript print out of notes relating to the history of Mortimers Cross Paper Mill and the early history of paper-making. All generally in very good condition – the leaflet on the Battle of Mortimers Cross has some gentle edge wear; and the typescript notes are folded and a little faded.
The Battle of Mortimers Cross in 1491 was one of the most decisive encounters of the Wars of the Roses and yet one of the least documented; Mortimers Cross Mill is an 18th century watermill, originally making paper and later converted to grain milling.
