Coronation edition, undated, but likely 1936 or 1937. xxiv, [2], 300pp, with three colour plates and 353 black and white plate illustrations. Red cloth-covered boards with gilt titles front and spine. Folio. Cloth a little worn, gently rubbed and rounded at corners and spine base. Quite heavily sunned over spine, cloth a little crushed and fraying at spine head. A few scattered mild marks. Upper text block edge toned, remaining edges spotted. There a small label in the top corner of the front free endpaper, and one loose but present page, else internally neat, clean and fresh.
Clifford Smith’s mammoth work on the treasures and furnishing of Buckingham Palace was first published in 1931. This edition was published five or so years later to mark the coronation of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth. It includes many further black and white plate illustrations and three colour plates not present in the first edition. An important work recording and describing the treasures of the official home in London of the British Royal Family; with introductory chapters on the building and site by Christopher Hussey.
