First edition, first impression.  128pp, copiously illustrated in full colour.  Red cloth-covered boards with gilt lettering on the spine.  Black endpapers.  Volume is neat, clean, bright and tight throughout.  In its original, illustrated dust jacket, very slightly rubbed at extreme spine tips.

Brian Cook – who effectively disappeared when he changed his name to Brian Batsford and gave up art and illustration in the late 1940s, to concentrate on publishing and politics – designed and illustrated series of books for B T Batsford,which have become collectible and forever associated with a quiet but colourful Englishness of a time gone by.
