Reprint.  Undated but circa 1927.  46pp stapled booklet in soft card covers.  16mo.  Covers are worn, a couple of flat creases, rubbed at edges with some spot staining front and back, chipped at spine base.  Internally some occasional foxing, signs of use and the occasional dog-eared page corner.

An important little volume in the development of vegetarianism and veganism.  Oldfield was the founder of the Fruitarian Society in 1902, having served as editor of the Herald of the Golden Age – the organ of the The Order of the Golden Age, a society which promoted a non-meat eating lifestyle from the 1880s onwards and first used the term Fruitarianism.  The Fruitarian Society became dogged by the politics of vegetarianism, disputing the definition of terms, with Oldfield himself ‘objecting absolutely’ to the use of the term vegetarianism because ‘the word smacks of onions and cabbage’.

This booklet includes recipes – such as those for ‘picnic or railway dishes as well as for more usual meals – and introductions to various parts of Oldfield’s approach.
