Complete in four volumes.  All four volumes are first editions, first impressions (1956, 1956; 1957, 1958 respectively).  Volume I (The Birth of Britain) – xxii, 416pp, with maps and genealogical tables; Volume II (The New World) – xii, 342pp, with maps and genealogical tables; Volume III (The Age of Revolution) – xii, 332pp. with maps and genealogical tables; Volume IV (The Great Democracies) – xii, 322pp, with maps.   All four volumes uniformly bound  in red publisher’s cloth with gilt-stamped lettering on the spine.  8vos.  All volumes a little rounded at corners and spine ends, with dusty and lightly spotted text block edges.  Some light spotting on endpapers and first and last few pages (more heavily spotted in volume one).  A previous owner’s bookplate on the front free endpaper of each volume.  The front hinge in volume one is cracked, else volumes are internally neat, clean, bright and tight.  All four volumes in original, not price clipped, dust jackets, worn, rubbed and bumped at edges, toned around edges and sunned to brittle and brown over scuffed spines, with small chips on edges and rubbing and bumped at spine ends, with minor loss.  Dust wrappers now protected, and made smarter, by an archival-quality Mylar sleeve, fitted without the use of tape or adhesives.

Winston Churchill’s sweeping history of Britain, her empire and former possessions, from Roman times to the end of the second Boer War.  A reasonable set in generally good condition with volume one verging towards fair.
