viii, 644pp. with colour plate illustrations and many black and white illustrations in text. Red cloth-covered boards with gilt lettering on spine. 8vo. Very slightly rubbed on corners of boards. There is a small nick at the base of the title page else internally neat, clean, bright and tight. In its original laminated, illustrated dust wrapper, bumped at edes with a few short closed nicks from edges and mild compression marks around spine.

A substantial volume, nicely presented, with impressive illustrations and decorative initial caps. It text is divided into chapters on various symbols – beasts, birds, trees, flowers, crowns, coronets etc, and then explains the inheritance patterns of each heraldic symbol etc.
