First edition, first impression.  192pp, profusely illustrated with Maud Berkeley’s sketches and watercolours.  Brown cloth-covered boards with gilt lettering front and spine.  Brown patterned endpapers.  4to.  Cloth just a little bumped at corners and spine ends.  Upper text block edge dull.  Internally neat, clean, bright and tight.  In its original glossy, illustrated dust jacket, shelf worn and gently bumped on extreme edges, with a few scattered spot marks, a little sunned over spine, label at base of spine.

Maud Berkeley’s diaries form a remarkable record of the life of an artist who did not share her works – they remained in her family for generations (and now held by the National Art Library).  The diaries form an extraordinary, unique, insight into the social life and lifestyle of an privileged if not wealthy lady living on the Isle of Wight int the late 19th and early part of the 20th century.
