A showcase of the creative artwork of Studio Ghibli’s classic 1988 animated, magical realism/fantasy film, Totoro. It features initial concept sketches, watercolour background painting, character designs and staff interviews and insights from the movie production team. The film was written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki, who also produced the early line art, while master painter Kazuo Oga spearheaded the detailed artwork, including rural landscapes and natural scenes. Very much in the genre of Japanese anime, it was a family film specifically aimed to include young children, often excluded from Studio Ghibli’s darker film productions.
