Undated but circa 1930. 96pp, with eight monochrome plate illustrations and numerous page decorations throughout. Blue cloth-covered boards with gilt lettering front and spine, blind embossed vignette on upper panel. Top edge gilt. 12mo. A quietly lovely edition of Goethe’s classic poem – one of the few that he himself had pleasure in reading in his later years – rendered into English by Vivian Brandon and illustrations after pictures by the Austrian painter and draftsman Arthur, Frieherr [Baron] von Ramberg.
