First edition, first printing. 178pp, with drawings by Ernest H Shepard. Peach cloth-covered boards with gilt stamped illustration on upper panel, gilt lettering on spine. Illustrated endpapers. 12mo. Cloth is worn and a little soiled and stained, gently rubbed and rounded at corners and spine ends, lightly creased along a dried spine, with small nick in cloth on front joint. Rear hinge cracked as well as some gutters, loosening signatures.. Internally some markings and toning, with a previous owner’s name on the front paste down. Text block edges rough and darkened with dust and light.

A fair only first edition trade copy of the second Winnie the Pooh novel. Full patina of age yet still evocative and, with some gentle care and cleaning would be a nice vintage copy of this children’s classic.
