One of the Magnificent Seven Cemeteries of Victorian London – perhaps the least well known of the Seven but certainly the most attractive.  It contains magnificent monuments to eminent citizens of the day which contrast sharply with the small, simple headstones marking common and public burials.  Its main formal avenue of towering London Lime trees and the gothic gloom of the original Victorian plantings give way to paths which recall the country lanes of times gone by.  This guide is intended as an introduction for those who may unaware of Nunhead’s charm and as a source of information for those who, after a visit perhaps, wish to know more.
