First edition, second impression (in the same year as first publication).  xii, 362pp, with 21 black and white plate illustrations and maps on endpapers.  Blue cloth-covered boards with gilt-stamped lettering to spine.  8vo.  Cloth a little worn and tired, gently rubbed on corners and spine ends.  Text block edges a little toned and spotted.  First and last few leaves internally have some faint and occasional spotting else internally neat, clean, bright and tight.

The title, Three Acres and a Mill is a play on the 1880s slogan of landing reformers, Three Acres and a Cow, representing a utopian ideal of self-sufficient smallholdings for every citizen. Gathorne-Hardy explores related themes in the context of the looming crisis of the second world war.
