First edition, first impression.  268pp, illustrated with photographs, line drawings, 12 maps and pne chronological table.  Green cloth-covered boards with gilt motif on upper panel and gilt lettering to spine.  Cloth slightly rubbed at corners and spine ends.  Light spotting and toning on text block edges and endpapers else internally neat, clean, bright and tight.  In its original laminated, illustrated dust wrapper, rubbed and lightly bumped  on extreme edges, shelf worn, with a hint of spotting on interior of dust wrapper.

Known for their skilled horsemanship and warlike-nature, the Sarmatians were Irian-speaking, nomadic tribes, initially from Sarmatia, a region just north of the Black Sea, who came to dominate the Pontic Caspian steppe – across Eastern Europe and Central Asia –  for around a thousand years from the 5th century BC onwards, displacing the Scythians and exerting much influence upon the Roman Empire both politically and culturally.  Greek historian Herodutus claimed they were descended from the Scythians and Amazons, explaining their great equestrian skills and warlike female warriors.  A very hard to find title.
