The village of Aylesham, Kent, just south-east of the county town of Canterbury, was built in the 1920s to house workers from the nearby coal mines.  The ‘masterplan’ was to grow Aylesham to a population of 30,000 but only a 1,000 houses were built in the first 30 years and the population remained short of 4,000 at the 2011 census.  The village also has interesting connections Latrobe Soccer Club in Brisbane, Australia.
