First edition, first impression. 226pp, black and white plate frontispiece and further black and white plate illustrations interleaved in text.  Red cloth-covered boards with gilt titles to spine.  8vo.  Cloth a little rounded at spine tips.  Slight shadowing on endpapers else neat, clean, bright and tight throughout.  In its original illustrated dust jacket, rubbed and bumped on edges, short cracks at base of spine folds and at base of forward fold, a little shelf worn.  

The story of Persian War, one the greatest racehorses of all time, three times Champion hurdle, and his struggles against illness, and of the tensions between his his charismatic and colourful owner, Henry Alper, and various trainers that more than once split over to violence and resulted in Persian War changing stables.
