Second edition (published in the same year as the first edition).  xxxii, 88pp.  Quarter bound in brown leather over black boards, paper title label on spine.  12mo.  Boards are worn, rubbed and rounded on corner and spines, rubbed all round edges, title label chipped. Internally some spotting, especially on endpapers and first and last few leaves, minor soiling in places. Boards are firm and strong but internally binding is brittle.

Thomas Moore (1779-1852) was an Irish writer and poet, regarded as on the English Romantic era poets, his works were among the popular of early 19th century Irish literature, and he was noted for his depictions of Catholic Emancipation, often noted as a Catholic patriot in Ireland.  This volume is among his political squib writing – a lampooning pastiche attack on the then  Foreign Secretary, Lord Castlereagh for his ruthless suppression of United Irishmen and for pushing the Act of Union through the Irish Parliament and the deference he had shown to the reactionary interest of British allies in continental Europe.  A fine – and effective – example of political satire.
