First edition. 224pp, generously illustrated in full colour. Black cloth-covered boards with gilt lettering on spine, Jet black endpapers. 4to. Cloth a little rounded at corners and spine ends, lower leading corner has mild bump. Internally neat, clean, bright and tight. In its original glossy, illustrated dust wrapper, bumped at edges, shelf worn, some minor identations, with old adhesive protective coating which is a little damaged in places.

Claiming to be the only book of its kind, this is a celebration of the fine art and fantasy of dolls, focussing on the fashions and designs of the roaring twenties. It is also a tribute to the Farago collection – one of the largest cloth doll collections in the world and some of those displayed in this volume are among the rarest in the world. There’s chapter devoted to the output of the Lenci Company as well as the influence of the silver screen and doll portraiture of the likes of Rudolph Valentino, Marlene Deitrich and Charlie Chaplin.
