Carlo Alfredo Piatti (1822-1901) was an Italian cellist and classical composer, composing for both the cello and the piano as well as occasionally for full orchestras.  He played on a Stradivarius which is now named after him, Piatti, and owned by the Mexican cellist Carlos Prieto.  among the most celebrated musicians of his day, he was a firm feature of the long-running Popular Concerts at London’s St James Hall.
