First edition. x, 518pp, with tissue-guarded frontispiece, four further photogravure tissued-guarded plates, 14 further plates and numerous illustrations in text.   Handsomely bound in red cloth-covered boards with gilt lettering and decoration front and spine. Deckled edges.  Title page printed in red and black, with vignette.  8vo. Cloth gentlt rounded at conerns and spine ends, slightly soiled around edges, spine lightly sunned.  A little toning and faint spotting to first and last few leaves else internally neat, clean, bright and tight.

A description of London at the turn of the 20th century through a series of sketches revealing palatial buildings, mean houss, beautiful districts and squalid regions vast in number and extent.  Familiar buildings mix with the usually unseen, presenting a snapshot image of the city which at the time claimed to the capital of the world.
