xvi, 178pp, plus a central section on black and white plate illustrations.  In dark brown cloth boards with gilt lettering on spine.  8vo.  Cloth a little impressed along leading edes, very slightly rounded on corners.  Internally neat, clean, bright and tight throughout.  A very nice clean and crisp copy without dust wrapper.

A fascinating history of the collecting of music through the 18th century and into Victorian times and the golden age towards the end of the 19th century; with a separate section on trends in music collecting in the early part of the 20th century; and appendices examining the Royal Music Library and its collections and especially Frederick Nicolay and his service to Queen Charlotte.
