A History of Aether and Electricity: The Classical Theories

Second edition (revised and expanded from the first).  xiv, 434pp, with some formulae and figures in text.  Brick red cloth-covered boards with gilt lettering on the spine.  Upper text block edge sprayed red. 8vo.  Cloth rounded at ends of a lightly sunned spine, and quite heavily rounded on corners.  A little spotting on unsprayed edges.  Internally neat. clean, bright and tight barring the rounding affecting the lower leading corner of the first dozen or so leaves.  

An important volume in the history of physics and cosmology, the first edition was published in 1910 under the title A History of the Theories of Aether and Electricity from the Age of Descartes to the close of the 19th Century.  This second edition, revised and enlarged some forty years later by the author, takes the history back beyond Descartes to the origins of relativity and quantum theory, and includes developments in the first half of the 20th century.
