The autobiography of art and fashion photographer Helmut Newton (1920-2004), widely known as the king of kink. Born into a Jewish family in Berlin, the family fled from Nazi Germany to Australia , where the photographer served in the Australian army during the second world war, and the family changed their name from Neustadter to Newton. Newton became globally renown in the 1970s, creating iconic editorials for French Vogue and earning a reputation for radical, aggressive and voyeuristic compositions with sado-masochistic undertones. His famous 1980 ‘Big Nudes’ and his massive 1999 monograph SUMO affirmed his status as a giant of modern visual culture.
