In blue cloth-covered boards with gilt titles to spine (boards just a little rounded and worn at spine tips). Faint library stamp on upper text block edge, cataloguing numbers on copyright page. In its original dust jacket (very slightly rubbed at edges, mildly sunned spine, tiny chip on inner flap). The fourth volume of an eight volume set resulting from the largest county survey undertaken to date by the English Place-Name Society, this present volume deals with the place-names of the region lying between the Aire and the Wharfe from the Ouse in the east to the borders of Craven in the west, as well as low-lying land of Ainsty between the Wharfe and the Nidd up to the gates of York. The principal towns are Selby, Leeds, Bingley, Otley, Ilkley and Tadcaster.
